By three methods we may learn wisdom:
First, by reflection, which is noblest;
Second, by imitation, which is easiest;
And third by experience, which is the bitterest.
지혜를 배우는 세가지의 방법이 있다.
첫번째는 가장 고귀한 것으로 반성을 통한 것이고,
두번째는 가장 쉬운 것으로 모방하는 것이며,
세번째로 가장 고통스러운 것은 경험을 통한 얻는 지혜인 것이다.
